Friday, 04.12.2026, 9:30 - 18:00
Room 4.28, Kolingasse 14-16, 1090 Wien
In the winter semester 2026/27, the discussion series “Disciplines in Motion” at the Faculty Center for Transdisciplinary Historical-Cultural Studies will take the form of a one-day workshop on academic resilience, in response to the growing challenges that scholars have come to face all over Europe.
The session aims to equip participants with analytical frameworks, practical strategies, and exercises to strengthen individual and collective resilience within academic environments. A key objective is to foster dialogue and peer exchange, creating a safe and supportive space for early career researchers at the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies.
The training aims to enhance participants’ understanding of ethical, digital, psychological, and physical safety considerations in research. Through contributions from a diverse range of speakers, the workshop addresses challenges in academia such as self-censorship, and mental health, and offers useful insights into Austrian law, as well as the support and counselling opportunities available at the University of Vienna.
We invite you to join us on 4 December, from 9:30 to 18:00, at Kolingasse 14–16, room 4.28, for a full-day workshop to develop academic resilience and to engage with fellow early career researchers.
As spots are limited, we kindly ask you to register by 31 October via email. Places will be allotted on a first-come first-served basis. We ask that participants attend for the full day. Should you have any questions, we will be glad to assist you at this email address as well.
The Resilience Training draws on the Pocket Guide for Academics under Attack (2026) developed in a cooperation of COST Actions “Rising nationalism, shifting geopolitics, and the future of European higher education/research openness” (OPEN) and “Democratisation at stake? Comparing anti-gender politics in CEE and NME countries” (Anti-Gender Politics).
