History of Medicine and the Biosciences

The Chair of History of Medicine and the Biosciences at the Faculty Center for Transdisciplinary Historical-Cultural Studies aims to test and develop approaches and methods in the field of modern history of knowledge and political epistemologies of medicine and the biomedical sciences. A second aim is to connect the faculty's institutes and working groups in research and teaching in this field.  Current thematic areas of focus include:  

  • Global Health
  • Reproduction and Reproductive Justice
  • Sex/Gender Diversity
  • Patient Activism
  • Disability and Iatrogenic Risks related to Medical Products
  • Anatomy and Visualisations
  • Oral History Methods
  • Collaborative and Community Sensitive Approaches in Research
