Dr.in Laura Bohnenblust

University assistant, post-doc

Laura Bohnenblust is a university assistant (post-doc) at the Chair of Cultural Heritage Studies at the Faculty Center for Transdisciplinary Historical and Cultural Studies. Her work focuses on modern and contemporary art and exhibition history with a special focus on Latin America. In addition, her research interests include questions of intangible cultural heritage and performance art, migration and mobility in art, art in architecture and art in public space, as well as processes of (art) historiography and microhistory in a postcolonial context.

Laura Bohnenblust studied art history in Bern and Buenos Aires, as well as German literature in Bern. She conducted research in Argentina as part of her dissertation project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and completed her doctorate at the University of Bern on the global exhibition history of the 20th century concerning mobility using the example of an Argentinian traveling exhibition. 2017 she was Fellow at the Transregional Academy "Mobility - Objects, Materials, Concepts, Actors" in Buenos Aires, 2019 at the Transregional Academy "Spaces of Art: Concepts and Impacts In and Outside Latin America", in Ciudad de México. Laura Bohnenblust was previously a lecturer at the University of Zurich. She was also involved as curator of an Off-space in Bern, worked for a historical project on art in architecture in Switzerland, and was an active art mediator in various cultural institutions.

In her current research project, Laura Bohnenblust asks about the status of protest songs as intangible cultural heritage. Using contemporary installation and performance art as a starting point, she analyzes the historical context of their emergence and transmission across geographical and epochal boundaries and reveals the extent to which songs as embodied memory represent an alternative perspective for the storage and transmission of knowledge compared to the material archive.
