The engagement with art objects and cultural practices has the capacity to bring about innovative contributions to various other branches of historical scholarship. Such explorations inevitably transcend the disciplinary compartmentalisation of knowledge; artistic and curatorial research are well capable of also winding down boundaries between academia and the world “out there”. Discussion participants will draw on experience from their varying research fields to reflect on interdisciplinarity as a knowledge-seeking strategy and the promise of combining it with transnational approaches and collaborative working methods.
